The 6th edition of the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final is now over. Three champions have been crowned today: Kenneth Hildebrand, from Estonia in the junior class, Luuk Glansdrop from Netherlands in the senior class and, for a second year in a row, Wesleigh Orr from South Africa in the RM1 class.
Two canadian drivers participated at the final round. Christophe Boisclair raced in junior and Marco Di Leo raced in RM1. Maxime Pelletier and Eric Gerrits had to race in the Second Chance race and couldn’t make the cut.
In the junior final, Christophe Boisclair started from the 14th position. After having suffered of lack of adherence in the pre-final, the final was much better for him. A big pile-up arise at the second corner after the start but Christophe was not involved in it and was quickly 8th. He fought with two drivers in the first laps and then took the 7th position. He kept this position until the checkered flag. This 7th place is the best result for a canadian driver at the RMC Grand Final. Kenneth Hildebrand started from the pole to win the title. Daniel Scnellengger, from Austria and Kazuki Hiramine, from Japan, finished 2nd and 3rd.
In the senior final, without a Canadian driver, Luuk Glansdrop of Netherlands won the race, followed by Rama Danindro from Indonesia and Martin Pierce of United Kingdom. For Pierce, this third place was his second at the RMC Grand Final. His first podium was also in Malaysia in January 2002. « This thid place was a lot more difficult to get compared to the first one. The level of competition increased a lot since the beginning of the Rotax Max Challenge. I could not be satisfied of this third place» said the british driver..
The last final was the RM1 race where Marco Di Leo started 15th. The start was identical to the 2 previous finals of the day and with all the contacts, Marco was 6th! He retained a group of 4 drivers for 14 laps even if he was obviously slower then them. At lap 15, his opponants attacked him all together and Marco smashed with one of them, going back to 10th. He kept this position until the end of the race. This 10th position is satisfying for him if we keep in mind all the things happened (DQ, crash, and problem during all the event to find the right set-up of the kart). South-African Wesleigh Orr won the RM1 final followed by his compatriot Cristiano Morgado and belgian Alexandre Engels. It is the first time that a RMC Grand Final champion keep his title. For Morgado, he finished 2nd for the second year, after winning the Rotax Max title in Egypt in 2004.
We will now have a full week of holiday before we will going back to the country and we will post a complete photo report when we’ll be back.
Congratulations to the canadian drivers to have been so good representatives!
