The first race of the Coupe du Quebec was held last weekend in Saint-Roch-de l’Achigan.  The 6 race championship started with a record number of penalties for driving over the cement “escape patches”, which is forbidden during races.

In some classes, nearly all of the drivers lost many spots because of their lack of discipline (loss of 2 positions each time you drove over a patch).  The winners were in some cases those who had followed the event official’s rules.

Many of the team SRA/Birel drivers were present at the event and had very good results.

In the Micro Max class, young William Chayer and Tommy Simard gave us quite a show and both finished on the podium (2nd and 3rd place finishes).

In Mini Max, Nataël Cantin, who was starting last in the final because of an incident in the pre-final, had quite a comeback and finished 6th.  As for Samuel Lupien, he had a great weekend finishing in 3rd place.  Adams Lessard, in his first race in the Mini Max class, performed really well continuously lowering his lap times.

On the starting grid there were a large number of Birel drivers in the Junior Rotax class: Olivier Bédard, Nicolas Doré, Jeffrey Kingsley, Allan Moreau and Cédrik Lupien.  Those who had the best results in the pre-final (Bédard/Doré) couldn’t hang on to them because of technical problems and incidents.  At the end it was Cédrik Lupien who grabbed 3rd place on the podium closely followed by his team mate Allan Moreau (4th spot).

In Senior Rotax, we were privileged to see a great race with numerous overtaking.  Philippe Arbour drove brilliantly and thus climbed on the highest step of the podium.

As for the Rotax DD2 class, Christophe Boisclair who was leading the race in the final, unfortunately had mechanical problems and did not finish the race.
